‘Roc On’ virtual events (and podcast): How we’re bringing people together to build empowered communities

Psst, have you listened to or watched anything great lately? Anything that lit a fire in your belly and made you truly excited about the future of technology? It’s for a little something called Roc On.                                                      

Say hello to ‘Roc On’ virtual events

If you didn’t already know, for the last few months the Roc Search team has been running virtual events over on LinkedIn Live. Generally an hour long, these Roc On events bring together industry leaders and experts to talk about important topics in the technology space. 

So far, we’ve covered topics such as:

• The power and promise of AI. Here, experts discuss how AI is changing industries and look at real-world use cases across a variety of sectors. 
• Sustainability in AI. This one’s all about the very real challenges and ethical considerations surrounding AI and machine learning. 
• Cyberserve. In this event, experts discuss how we can leverage opportunities within cybersecurity to support and uplift underserved communities.
• Finding your job and your why. Here, our inspiring panellists share actionable strategies, personal anecdotes and invaluable advice on uncovering your passion and navigating the job market. If you’re not sure where to start, we recommend you seek out this one first and go from there.

We know what you’re thinking: ‘This sounds great, but I missed the events on LinkedIn Live.’ Well, don’t worry. The entire back catalogue is available as a podcast on Spotify, so you can catch up at a time that suits you.

Sharing knowledge, uncovering wisdom

We launched the Roc On events as part of our ongoing journey to learn, inform, inspire and create limitless opportunities. Basically, to add value for the people and businesses we serve. We figured what better way to do that than pull together thought leaders to discuss the most pressing matters facing the technology industry. There’s much to learn from their experience, of course. But even more important than gaining insights is gaining diversity of insights. Understanding a broad range of perspectives and making sure we serve underrepresented communities is key for us at Roc Search. Which is why we invite a diverse panel of speakers for each topic. 

It’s all about building and empowering communities

This emphasis on diversity of perspectives hints at another driving force behind the Roc On events: our desire to build and empower communities. As a recruitment company, our mission is to empower lives through expertise and meaningful connections – whether that’s connecting a talented technology professional with their dream job, helping an employer access amazing talent in a challenging job market, or simply hooking professionals up with career-enhancing knowledge. 

Building and empowering diverse communities helps us deliver this mission. For example, through proactive outreach to diverse talent pools and professional networks we’re empowering a diverse workforce across the wider tech industry. (We ensure a fair, unbiased recruitment process for the same reason.) We practise what we preach, too. Internally, we’re proud to have built a diverse, inclusive workforce – a team that’s able to create pathways for the underserved and underrepresented in the global tech workforce. 

We also support and collaborate with other organisations that are working to empower women and people of colour in the technology industry. One example is 50/50 Women on Boards, the global non-profit that exists to accelerate gender balance and diversity on corporate boards. As well as being active on the organisation’s board, we’re determined to lead from the front with our own board of directors, which has 50% female representation.

The Roc On events provide yet another way for us to build and empower communities. By bringing together diverse thought leaders for enlightening conversations, we broaden our perspectives. And as any business leader knows, diversity of thought is key to fostering greater creativity, solving problems and driving business success. It certainly works for us!
